Staying Power or Stubbornness?

Posted on June 10, 2013 with 0 comments

I was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when a show business pal posted on my Facebook page that he had just received the June/July "Pride" issue of The Advocate magazine in the mail and, while thumbing through the pages, he had stumbled upon my picture and a short shout-out about my shows at The Iridium Jazz Club in NYC.  I quickly picked up a copy, cut out my blurb from page 58, pasted it on the cover and posted it on Facebook.  Since then, I've heard from friends around the world who subscribe to The Advocate and the response has been pretty amazing.  I'm even hearing from my straight friends, some of whom I haven't been in touch with since high school, via Facebook and email with good wishes and congratulations.  It's always nice to get a little pat on the back and a "good on ya" from your friends and acquaintances, especially among the gay community.  To be celebrated by anyone at all makes it worth all of the effort but I wonder... What have I actually accomplished? [...]

Going Into Our 5th Year!

Posted on February 25, 2013 with 0 comments
It's hard to believe I've been singing at The Iridium Jazz Club in New York City every month for four whole years but it's true!  We've got two shows tomorrow night (at 8 & 10 pm) with some lovely lady guest stars (Karen Oberlin, Marissa Mulder, and KT Sullivan!) and then we gear up for the big 4 Year Anniversary Gala Concert and Blow Out event on Tuesday, March 26th, 2013!  I will have a super star guest and a bunch of past guest stars in the show and I can't wait to celebrate this milestone achievement with my friends, family, and fans!
Thank you all for your love and support!  Tell more friends and bring your pallies out tomorrow night and next month too for the big celebration.  The amazing "Little Big Band" will be smokin' and swingin' the night away, as always.  You won't want to miss it.

The Return of Mister Bongo & More!

Hi Everyone!
I'm VERY excited about all of the recent developments with my concert events in New York City and I just have to gush a little about all of the reasons why!
For three and a half years, I have performed a monthly show at The Iridium on Broadway in New York City, and we're STILL going strong!  My 8-piece "little big band" has developed into a formidable group of the top jazz and Broadway musicians New York has to offer and we continue to set the bar high with new arrangements of swingin' tunes, original songs written just for me and the band, and lots of amazing special guest stars!
This month is no exception.  In fact, it's turning out to be one of my favorite events here ever!  I'm thrilled to be bringing my friend and legendary percussionist and big band leader Jack "Mr. Bongo" Costanzo to New York City for the first time in over 50 years!

PAUL SAFY, JR.!  I love this guy!  Not only is he a native Upstate New Yorker, like me, (Buffalo, Rochester... just a quick ride down the Thruway!) but he swings hard and has a deep devotion to classic songs from the Great American Songbook and the stars who originally made them famous (Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, etc.)  He's also a sweetheart.  You don't find guys this nice in show biz these days.
Check him out on YouTube (link below) on NBC's "America's Got Talent" in the finals of Season Five: Come and see him sing and swing with me and my 8-piece Little Big Band at The Iridium in NYC!  Two different shows at 8 & 10 PM on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012!  Call 212.582.2121 for reservations or visit
We'll also broadcast the shows live over the internet at
Horns UP!

Pinch me.  No, seriously.  Pinch me!  I cannot believe the cool stuff happening right now!  Here's what's up:
I got a phone call yesterday from BILLY STRITCH.  He's been out on tour with Liza Minnelli, Linda Lavin, Christine Ebersole, and with Jim Caruso and their now-traveling "Cast Party!"  In between shows, Billy found the time to read a Facebook message I sent him last week asking him to appear with us at The Iridium in New York City on Sunday, November 6th.  HE SAID YES!  I think the thing I am most excited about is that we're finally going to attempt to perform the "Porgy And Bess" duet that Frances Faye (my musical idol) and Mel Torme (Billy's musical idol) recorded on Bethlehem Records in 1956!  On stage with us will be our 9-piece "little big band" PLUS the man who orchestrated and arranged that original recording and conducted Torme and Faye and the orchestra, RUSS GARCIA!
Russ turned 95 years old this past April.  Shaynee Rainbolt [...]
