How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Terese Genecco

Greetings Long Lost Friends & Brand New Fans!

I can't believe it's been four months since I sent out a newsletter or wrote on my blog to connect with you but I guess that's what happens when you are working hard, playing fast, and living in New York City (mostly!)

When last we met, I was about to welcome "The Legend" Steve Rossi as my special guest star at my regular monthly gig at The Iridium in NYC. Mr. Rossi was the singing half of the comedy duo Allen & Rossi. They played everywhere in the late 50's and early 60's, including the Ed Sullivan Show on the same night as The Beatles made their American television debut. He was also the gorgeous voice on the Academy Award Nominated song "More" from the movie Mondo Cane. Steve was charming and funny and still in really good voice (and accompanied by The Naples Sisters, a duo he performed with from time to time in Las Vegas - very, Very Vegas!) I told him I felt like the son he never knew he had! We had a blast with him and we're hoping to work together again very soon, perhaps in a duo show in Atlantic City or with the brilliant Rich Little this fall in New York! Stay tuned as those plans develop further.

In May, I was nominated for a MAC award, (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) this year in the Major Artist category. I was the outgoing Outstanding Female Vocalist from the year before, so this was a big bump up for me! Baby Jane Dexter was the glorious winner and I was honored to not only be nominated in her company (along with fellow nominees Eric Michael Gillett, Barbara Fasano, and Eric Comstock) but I was also thrilled to be asked to perform in front of a sold out house at B.B. King Blues Club with my friend and musical collaborator Sean Harkness on guitar!

I've had a slew of awesome Special Guest Stars at our continued gig at The Iridium Jazz Club in New York City! We're now being hailed as "The Longest Running Nightclub Act On Broadway!" Since moving to NYC from San Francisco in March of 2009, we've done a show there every month since and we're getting a very nice following. We welcomed drummer/conductor extraordinaire Michael Berkowitz on drums (fresh off his tour and Broadway shows with Liza Minnelli) in May, Broadway Diva Karen Mason (Mamma Mia! Hairspray, Sunset Blvd) in June, Platinum Selling Lyricist/Singer Mark Winkler from Los Angeles in July, and most recently my friend and producer Scott Barbarino with our brand new Tropicabana Girls in August! We were also pleased to enjoy the company of Grammy Award Winning musicians Lew Soloff (Blood, Sweat & Tears) on trumpet and the always raucous Skip Ward (Steve Martin's "The Crow") on bass with my *little big band!* Skip is now subbing on Broadway on stage in The Million Dollar Quartet and is about to go out on tour with Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes! I love this guy! Catch him on tour in a city near you and tell him "T" sent you!

Speaking of my Little Big Band... Our trombone player Mark Miller has been starring on Broadway all summer in the Frank Sinatra/Twyla Tharpe dance spectacular "Come Fly Away" where he stands center stage on the bandstand and wails out a sweet and long solo on "Makin' Whoopie" with some very hot dancers paying a little too much attention to his plunger...if you know what I mean!

I've been playing DRUMS in the Danny Leary Band every month and having a blast. We're at Comix on the Last Thursday of Every Month in The Danny Leary Variety Extravaganza! Musical Director is Kenneth Gartman at the keyboard with either Sean Harkness on guitar or Skip Ward on bass. FUN GIG!

In June, I also picked up a brand new gig writing a regular column for www.Examiner.com! I'm now the official NYC Jazz Music Examiner! I've got a few articles up online. Please do check them out, subscribe, comment, etc. The more eyeballs landing on the site, the longer I'll stay at it! And it pays a bill or two based on hits, so hit away, my friends! Daddy needs a new washing machine!

Also in June, I auditioned for a VERY COOL brand new musical called BRINDLEBEAST! I haven't received the call from the casting agent that I'm in the show... YET! Anyway, it was an honor to be asked to audition for a possibly Broadway-bound new musical and it was a fun experience, even if it WAS the day after my Iridium shows, during which I sang 30 songs with horns and bongos wailing behind me! That's New York and I love it!

I continue to sing at various benefits, corporate, and private parties, and of course at my regular gig at The Iridium. I headed upstate to sing in my hometown of Canandaigua, New York in July and met some great new musicians who played in my upstate Little Big Band. We're hoping to do that again next summer and might hit Syracuse together this October!

My Mom had hip replacement surgery on May 18th, so we got to spend a bunch of "quality time" together in Upstate New York in May, June and July. She has recovered nicely and we're looking forward to hanging out a bit in NYC before she heads back to Florida for the winter. Um... WHAT? WINTER? NO! There's a lot of summer left here and a predictably gorgeous autumn in New York.

If you're in town on the Last Tuesday of any month, please come and join us at The Iridium! My special guest star this month is TODD MURRAY, in from L.A. for a run at The Metropolitan Room. His new show is called "CROON." He can and does. He can also swing his head off! I can't wait to get him up there on stage with my band! That's on September 28th. My October 26th special guest star is, once again, the amazing KAREN MASON. November 30th brings us my pal and new TV STAR KLEA BLACKHURST! Watch for Klea on the new IFC Cable TV show, THE ONION in January! My December 28th show will be a big ole party and I'll announce the guest stars next month! Right now, we're negotiating with the wonderfully talented TONY DeSARE and equally talented TAMELA D'AMICO! Look for a little SHAYNEE RAINBOLT sighting as well!

One last thing! My new Elvis Presley show is a HIT! I'll be bringing it to The M Bar in Los Angeles on December 3rd and to my old home, The Rrazz Room, in San Francisco on December 13th! So here's the thing kids: If you buy tickets to my Rrazz Room gig NOW... and we sell OUT... which we SHOULD... then I get to add a *little big band* show on December 14th and have some fun showing my pals in the Bay Area what I've been up to at The Iridium every month since I left SF a year and a half ago! So... Please do log onto the Rrazz Room site highlighted above and buy your tickets to my Elvis show on 12/13! I'm bringing the dreamy and talented Sean Harkness with me. He will blow you away on his baritone guitar. That's it. Just me and Sean and Elvis. Apparently, a very winning combination! Here are two reviews from our NYC debut of the show:

Genecco - Elvis Reviews: 1) www.nitelifeexchange.com and 2) www.cabaretscenes.org

So, that's it for this installment of "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" by Terese Genecco. Do you remember the old Cheech & Chong routine with Sister Mary Elephant? Well... I grew up on that and Bill Cosby's "Himself." It's no wonder I'm a hopeless show business hybrid kind of crazy! "The Love Child of Dean Martin and Judy Garland" INDEED!

OH!!! Speaking of Dean Martin!!! Last month, I was sitting at a front row, ringside table at Feinstein's in NYC to see DEANA MARTIN, the real life daughter of my hero, Dean Martin! Her show was fantastic! While I was tempted to sing along with every word, I kept my mouth shut until Ms. Martin actually invited the audience to sing the back up part (originally sung by The Easy Riders ) on "Memories Are Made Of This." Well... she liked what she heard from me so she grabbed me, handed me a mic, and brought me up on stage with her to sing! She enjoyed it so much, she invited me back the next night to do the very same thing. In the audience that night? REGIS PHILBIN! Now, I haven't parlayed that into an appearance on LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY YET...but I'm about to! ;-) Send in your letters to Regis! He would LOVE my shows at The Iridium!

Till next month... when I hope to be able to actually send out a regular newsletter again... stay happy and safe and please, go out and support live music as often as possible! Say hello when you get a chance! I've missed you all and can't wait to see you in person! Leave a comment here or shoot me an email!

Peace,

XO

Terese

MAC Award Nominations and Other News!

Hi Everyone!

There is always something going on over here at BUG:OUT:MUSIC to celebrate, and this month is no exception! The Manhattan Association of Cabaret & Clubs announced the 24th Annual MAC Award Nominations yesterday, and we were leaping for joy at the office when the text came in from our esteemed associate producer, Scott Barbarino of ScoBar Entertainment, that Terese has been nominated in the MAJOR ARTIST category this year! As most of you know, Terese is already the 2009 Outstanding Female Vocalist, so the Major Artist category is a "bump up" in recognition for Team Genecco! We're VERY proud of our artist and can't wait to see her perform at the annual MAC Awards show at B.B. King Blues Club in Times Square on May 4th, 2010! Congratulations and good luck, T!

In other fun news, Terese will be celebrating her 1-Year Anniversary of shows at THE IRIDIUM in NYC this coming Tuesday, March 30th! The shows are being hailed as The Longest Running Nightclub Act On Broadway and it's true! In for the anniversary show/party will be West Coast singer/lyricist MARK WINKLER. Mark is a commanding and swinging vocalist with a smooth, wry, funny style. He'll be singing a couple of duets with Terese and the little big band, and then will keep the band all to himself for a 1/2 hour set in each of the two shows. We've also asked NYC Jazz Singer MARY FOSTER CONKLIN to join Mark for a duet!

The band is, as always, smokin' with the usual suspects; BARRY LEVITT on piano, TOM HUBBARD (who is currently playing for Marilyn Maye in Florida) on bass, JOE ABBA on drums, MAYRA CASALES on percussion, CLIFF LYONS on tenor sax, KENNY LAVENDER on trumpet, and old friend ISREA BUTLER back on trombone. Isrea is filling in for MARK MILLER who is playing his trombone on stage in "Come Fly Away" on BROADWAY, just down the street from the Iridium! Way to go, Mark! SEAN HARKNESS will also be with the band again on guitar.

And speaking of SEAN HARKNESS... wait till you see what he has done with Terese and their ELVIS PRESLEY show! A full-fledged Musical Director was born on this project and Terese is thrilled at the arrangements and accompaniment Sean has come up with for this classic rock material. They debuted the show last Monday at Don't Tell Mama in New York City during a torrential downpour, so we know a lot of folks who were planning to come out never made it out. There's one more performance THIS MONDAY, March 29th at 9:30pm and it's the show that will bring the fabulous "UNDER THE COVERS" series to a close. Produced by director/singer LENNIE WATTS, the series has presented 17 singers and their favorite, uncut, classic LPs, including SHAYNEE RAINBOLT's re-imagining of Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" album in a Latin Jazz way. There was also the stunning STEVEN RAY WATKINS covering Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" LP, SARAH MUCHO with Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush," and ANGIE McKNIGHT with Cher's "Half Breed!" Another flurry of shows takes place this Sunday and Monday night, so plan accordingly. If you are intending to enjoy a lovely Sader dinner with family this Monday, think about capping the night off with Terese's ELVIS show performance at 9:30pm!

We just caught site of a great article about Terese's one year anniversary shows at The Iridium on the website NiteLifeExchange.com! Written by the very funny and punny Rob Lester, it's a great recap of what's been going all year at The Iridium! Check it out now on the front page of the NiteLife Exchange website! CLICK HERE

Rob starts the article saying "There's a meeting for hopeless addicts that happens once a month on 51st Street and Broadway..." and ends the article with "My name is Rob and I am a Geneccoholic." We're looking for the President of the Geneccoholic Fan Club. Any takers? Thanks, Rob, for a fun romp through Terese's last year of shows in NYC! And thanks to NiteLife Exchange for the great article!

Gotta get the newsletter out to the fans, so I'm going to stop blogging now! Check out all of the news and info and upcoming calendar dates on the website and go out to support live music often!

Thanks and love from all of us at BUG:OUT:MUSIC!

Tamara Hayes, VP of booking & promotion

Cool Stuff Happening in 2010!

FROM TAMARA HAYES, VP; BOOKING & PROMOTION; BUG:OUT:MUSIC

Happy New Year, Everyone!

If you've received emails, newsletters, or postcards from the BUG:OUT:MUSIC camp lately, then you already know that Terese Genecco & Her Little Big Band have been extended indefinitely at The Iridium Jazz Club in New York City by co-producer SCOBAR ENTERTAINMENT! Audiences have been steadily growing in number since Terese first began her run of "Last Tuesdays" there back in March of 2009, so they're going to keep the show going throughout 2010! Terese has quickly become a mainstay on the jazz/cabaret circuit in New York City and her shows at The Iridium are becoming a regular tourist attraction!

We are thrilled to report that there was a capacity crowd at the December 29th shows thanks, in part, to the lovely television and film actress, KATE HODGE, and fashion designer, SIXTEN, celebrating their birthdays with a group of invited guests. There were also a whole slew of tourists in town for New Year's Eve in Times Square, and many of them made their way up a few blocks to The Iridium for the shows. As usual, there were lots of other singers and musicians in the room. Like Terese's idol before her, (The Fabulous Frances Faye) her concerts always attract other entertainers like moths to the flame! Terese really does throw the equivalent of a great party from the stage and keeps the energy rolling all night long. We have no idea how or when she sleeps. It doesn't seem possible for her to settle down long enough to get any rest at all!

Guest drummer RAY MARCHICA sat in with the band while JOE ABBA was away. Ray has been playing percussion in the hit Broadway show MAMMA MIA for over 5 years. He was also the studio drummer on the ROSIE O'DONNELL show a few years back. Ray was a powerhouse and the band was really driving with him locking it down. Joe Abba is back behind the set on January 26th.

Terese also welcomed Latin percussionist (and drummer) TONY CINTRON to the band last month. MAYRA CASALES was away on vacation but will also return to the fold on January 26th. Tony was awesome as well. We're sure he'll be back with the gang some other time this year when Mayra gets called away to play out of town with her own band, CocoMama.

The rest of the band was made up of the regular suspects. "The Maestro," BARRY LEVITT was brilliant at the Steinway, as always. SEAN HARNKESS is adding some great texture to the sound of the band on the guitar. TOM HUBBARD was back from his tour of Australia with LIZA MINNELLI to jump back in on bass. Tom is playing for TYNE DALY at FEINSTEIN's this month, so the amazing SKIP WARD will be sitting in again for Tom. The horn section seems to be pretty consistent lately with CLIFF LYONS on tenor sax, MARK MILLER on trombone, and KENNY LAVENDER on trumpet. This is a tight, tight band, folks. They're all top-notch jazz players in one of the biggest jazz cities in the world. You don't find much better than these guys very often!

Terese is also VERY excited to be returning to her favorite city by the bay, San Francisco, for a one-night-only concert event featuring her dear friend, SHAWN RYAN and their combined "little big band!" Terese and Shawn have worked together before, but they have never shared an entire show together from top to bottom. They're working on specialty numbers and some duets! This show promises to be a highly entertaining evening with two of the hottest headliners in the jazz/cabaret world at the helm.

KELLY PARK will be leading the little big band which will be comprised of many of Terese's former bandmates there in SF, including RICH ARMSTRONG on trumpet, TONY MALFATTI and FIL LORENZ on reeds, and MAX PERKOFF on trombone! They'll be adding MARK ROSENGARDEN on drums and SAM BEVAN on bass to the mix, plus a few surprises. The show is taking place on FRIDAY, JANUARY 29th at 8PM at THE GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL in downtown San Francisco. Tickets are still on sale at their website: www.gamhtickets.com. Hurry and purchase yours this weekend while there are still good seats available!

We're lining up lots of gigs, radio and television interviews, and some exciting new projects for Terese this year. If you'd like to see her show in your city, let us know your favorite venue and we'll try to make it happen. Check in with us every week or two for new info and announcements! Thanks for your all of your support for Terese and for live music in general!

And don't forget, you can get a copy of Terese's debut, award-winning CD, "Drunk With Love: A Tribute To Frances Faye" available online at CDBABY.com, Apple iTunes, and other digital retailers. You can also stream the CD live and read liner notes and more at www.drunkwithlove.com!

Thanks for supporting live music
It matters.

Tamara and the Gang at BUG:OUT:MUSIC
thayes@bugoutmusic.com
www.bugoutmusic.com
